Arbi Masala fry is one of the most easy and healthy side dishes that you can prepare at home. It is very simple to make yet its taste is amazingly delicious. Arbi is also known as colocasia, taro root or ghuiya in hindi. Arbi can be made in different ways, but I will share with you the Arbi dry masala recipe which is prepared in quick time.

It is a traditional North Indian recipe, it is hardly found in any restaurants across India. This recipe is made with few ingredients and spices. It does not require onion, garlic or tomatoes, it is simply tossed with few spices and our tasty dish is ready. It can be stored for 2-3 days in the refrigerator.

Arbi ki Sabji is a very simple and easy recipe to make. The fried arbi is crispy and spicy and it is perfect to make your weekly meal. It can be served as a side dish with a variety of other main course dishes. You can serve it with chapati also or simply enjoy it as an appetiser or snack.

What is Arbi?

Arbi or Ghuyia as we call it in Hindi or Taro root in English. It is a vegetable which is quite  popular in the Indian sub-continent and in caribbean islands & west african countries.

Arbi is similar to potatoes as it is root vegetable, but it is sticky and slim and comes in all shapes and sizes unlike potato which is round and oval, the taste and texture is also different.

Arbi is a vegetable with a number of nutritional and health benefits. It is a stem of a colocasia plant, there are a number of recipes that can be prepared using these leaves as both root and leaves of the colocasia plant are edible.

There are certain chemicals in the skin of raw arbi which makes your hands feel itchy when you peel it so it is recommended to wear gloves.

Ingredients  

  • 500 Grams Arbi
  • 2 Tsp Coriander powder
  • 2 Tbsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 Tsp Chaat masala
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions 

  • First Wash and clean taro roots to remove mud from them.
  • Put the clean taro roots in a pressure cooker and add three glasses of water.
  • Let it boil and cook on medium flame for two whistles.
  • Once cooked, open the lid and check if the taro roots are soft enough.
  • Remove it in a bowl and let it cool.
  • Once it is cooled down, peel the taro roots.
  • To fry, heat oil in a pan on high flame.
  • Once the oil is heated, fry until it turns light brown and remove it on a plate.
  • Add two tbsp oil in a pan on medium flame.
  • Add coriander powder, kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric powder, chaat masala, and salt to taste.
  • Stir all the spices for a few seconds.
  • Add the fried taro roots / Arbi in a pan and mix until it is coated well with all the spices.
  • Turn off the flame and remove it on the plate.
  • Arbi masala is now ready, served as a side dish
